A Positive Outlook from Wharton

A Positive Outlook from Wharton

good vibes only

Although 2020 certainly wasn’t the year that many of us envisioned, with many of us dealing with multiple curveballs that would affect our mental health one way or another, we thought it only right to think positive and look at what went well in 2020 and what we are striving toward in 2021.

It’s a big thing with the Wharton team to think positive, and to know that we all have each others backs. A regular saying in the office that floats around is ‘You Do You’ which can mean something different to everyone who hears it. We are lucky enough to be able to talk to our fellow colleagues and let off that bit of steam should we need to and we are even able to celebrate the successes as well which far outweigh any negatives. A perspective from Lauren, Digital Marketer

So with the above in mind, let’s share some of our successes and achievements from 2020. We also encourage you to share your successes also. Big yourself up, shout it from the rooftops! Show it off as now is your time to shine.

2020 Positives for Wharton, my golly there are a few!

The Team at the Coach House!

The Team at the Coach House!

  • At the beginning of 2020 Wharton headed to pastures new as we moved into a new office opposite the fabulous Coughton Court

  • Successfully transitioning the whole team to working from home when the Covid pandemic first kicked off

  • All of our company values were tested to the max and they stood strong – Collaborative, Honest, Positive & Balanced

  • James our Arboricultural Consultant obtained a distinction with his foundation degree and has since started his BSc Hons in Urban Forestry and Arboriculture (Go James!)

  • Lauren successfully passed her Digital Marketing apprenticeship, that’s 2 in a row

  • We’ve received such positive and unprovoked feedback from a number of our clients

  • Completing large projects such as Aberystwyth University & Alscot Estate tree risk surveys, and Horiba Mira development

  • We offered 2 new Ecologists (Hattie and Laura) positions within the Wharton team who have both said that it is great to be a part of a supportive team, feeling so welcomed especially during the ‘covid era’ and not only working with your employee’s but actually creating friendships from the work relationships!

  • We welcomed Paige to the team as our first proper Project Coordinator and she has been great at helping the wider team become more efficient, improving our internal systems and keeping everyone else even more on track! She told us it’s been great to start at Wharton in a new field of work

  • It’s been a great year of seeing some rare species with the lesser horseshoe bat being a highlight

  • We successfully introduced, well attended webinars during the first Lockdown which provided interaction for those working and those on furlough. Which also introduced our Continuous Professional Development program offered to anyone.

  • We created fun activity sheets for parents who found themselves home schooling during lockdown

  • Toward the end of the year we offered a new job to our new Arboricultural Consultant Dean Hickton who joined the Wharton team in January

Welcome to (15).png
  • We have put together an exceptional management team of Senior Consultants Matt and Jack with Director Peter

  • Of course we couldn’t forget to mention getting through 2020 and riding the wave that came with it, and without the fabulous team backing Wharton it definitely wouldn’t have been possible so thank you to you all for your time, efforts and devotion during one of the most tricky years in business

With last years roundup out of the way the team has many personal goals they want to achieve for the year ahead as well, we have shared them below. Be sure to let us know what you are aiming for this year.

2021 Goals and Aims for Wharton:

  • Actually be able to see the team face to face again in person, and go on walk and talks like we used to. Basically heading back to the normality that we all know and love!

  • Continue to develop our exceptional team through training and social events plus get a full team picture (not on Zoom)

  • To develop a formal partner strategy

  • James has gone back to university to complete his BSc Hons in Urban Forestry and Arboriculture at Myerscough, but don’t worry he’s still working 4 days a week as it’s all online.

  • James also aims to start his process of becoming chartered! (Someone is going to be busy!)

  • Have a successful launch of our NEW podcast ‘Nature’s Architects’ and make sure that we have a new episode once a week

  • We want to improve the efficiency of the business to give our clients an even better customer experience

  • Continue to deliver exceptional results for all our clients and continue to develop great partnership

  • We’re also working with Marketing Strategists Flamingo

As you can probably tell from everything written above there are lots of positives to come out of the last 12 months, even if it wasn’t the best of years with the pandemic. We also have lots of positives ahead of us for the next year.

Sometimes it’s good to take just 5 minutes, and look at the glass that’s half full, remember those achievements and know that last year was worth the hassle.
